Alucard is a fictional character and protagonist of the Hellsing manga and anime series created by Kouta Hirano. He is devoted to his master Integra Hellsing and was good friends with the Hellsings' butler, Walter C. Dornez. He also has feelings of admiration towards his fledgling, Seras Victoria. Alucard works with the Hellsing Organization against other vampires and evil forces. He fights with ferocity and often extreme cruelty, rarely killing until his target has been disabled and humiliated, while frequently allowing enemies more than one chance to kill him (though he seeks only to be killed by a human, having grown bored of immortality and life).
As revealed in volume 8 of the manga, he is Count Dracula (Alucard is Dracula spelled backwards) as well as his real name being Vlad III Tepes Dracula. Over five hundred years ago, during his original life time as Vlad The Impaler, he fought in the crusades to save his homeland and for god, only to fail greatly and be beheaded. Soon after the events presented in Bram Stoker's original novel, Dracula was defeated by Abraham Van Helsing and became the family's loyal servant. Decades later, Abraham's descendant Arthur Hellsing gives the Count his current name: "Alucard". The manga is set over a hundred years later, where the Hellsing Organization is forced to fight the remnants of a Nazi battalion.
He typically dresses in a distinctive Victorian and western fashion, with a charcoal suit, leather riding boots, a red cravat, and a long red duster (resembling Van Helsing's duster). He also wears a red fedora with a wide, floppy brim and a pair of circular, wire-framed sunglasses (which are similar in design to glacier sunglasses and old-fashioned Wilson welding glasses) which he uses to cover his long black shaggy hair. However, this form seems to be a part of his being as he can change it at will. In his normal form he also wields two dual pistols that have long barrels with engravings on the sides.
He also has other forms with their own appearances and weapons, which include:
Vlad The Impaler/Dracula - his original/true form as Wallachia's Voivode King comes equipped with 15th Century Knight's Armor, longer hair with facial hairs, and a black/red longly lapel collar cloak, and wields a Two-Handed Double Edged Medieval Broadsword that has a long steel blade with a polished brass handle. In this form he also commands the Wallachian Crusaders Cavalry as he once did in the Middle Ages, and can use his supernatural powers to impale enemies.
Nosferatu/No Life King/The Count - his iconic form as the Romanian Count from Stoker's Novel comes equipped with a black tight outfit that resembles a old suit and a old fashioned straight jacket with long flowely hair. In this form he usually uses it for biting/sucking the blood from his victims (because it was his form he used in the events of Dracula the novel), and wields a barrage of magical and supernatural abilites, most namely fire and hellhounds more commonly known as "Baskerville Hounds." Other than his normal form this one is used quite often.
40's Alucard (called "girlycard" by some fans) - the form he took during WWII while fighting Nazis with his current former friend Walter Dornez. This form strangely resembles a young girl and is theorized to possibly be his only "female form" even then is still like the rest a fabrication (discluding his Vlad/Dracula form). On the other hand, this form comes equipped with a white outfit consisting of a coat and cap, and in this form wields a tommy gun.
In the anime and OVA Alucard is voiced by Jōji Nakata and Crispin Freeman in the English adaptations.
